Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., the official distributor of BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd. in Nepal, has launched the BYD SEALION 7, a new all-electric SUV, marking the latest addition to the country’s premium EV market. The unveiling took place at an official event in Kathmandu on July 24, 2025.
The launch event was attended by dignitaries including the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, who emphasized the growing collaboration between China and Nepal in the field of sustainable development. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Song expressed optimism that the introduction of advanced EVs like the SEALION 7 would support Nepal’s transition toward greener transport solutions.
According to Cimex CEO Sahil Shrestha, the SEALION 7 represents a combination of next-generation electric powertrain technology and design sophistication tailored for local conditions. “With the 100 kW variant and attractive early bird pricing, we’re proud to bring another milestone vehicle to the Nepalese market,” said Shrestha. He added that the launch reflects BYD's broader ambition of advancing sustainable mobility in Nepal.
The Sealion 7 is part of BYD’s Ocean Series and is built on the company’s e-Platform 3.0, designed specifically for electric vehicles. The model launched in Nepal features a 100 kW rear-wheel-drive electric motor producing 380 Nm of torque. It uses a 71.8 kWh Blade Battery—an LFP battery design developed by BYD and known for its structural rigidity and safety.
With a WLTP-rated range of up to 440 kilometers on a single charge, the Sealion 7 is positioned to appeal to buyers seeking both daily usability and long-distance capability. The Blade Battery is integrated directly into the car’s chassis using Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, which enhances cabin space and improves the vehicle’s structural integrity.
BYD claims the Sealion 7 is equipped with one of the world’s fastest mass-produced EV motors, capable of reaching up to 23,000 revolutions per minute. The SUV’s suspension system consists of a double wishbone setup in the front and multi-link rear suspension, paired with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers for improved ride quality.
The Sealion 7 was styled under the direction of Wolfgang Egger, BYD’s Global Design Director. Externally, the SUV features coupe-inspired lines with a fastback roofline, a wide rear light bar, and BYD’s signature ‘X Face’ front fascia. U-shaped LED headlamps and wave-inspired body contours reflect the Ocean Series theme.
Inside, the Sealion 7 offers a tech-forward cabin highlighted by a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Infotainment features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, along with voice-controlled climate and vehicle functions.
The Sealion 7 is priced at Rs. 74.99 lakhs in Nepal, but an introductory early bird offer brings the price down to Rs. 72.99 lakhs for a limited period. Customers who book during this phase will also receive an extended warranty package: 10 years or 200,000 kilometers for the Blade Battery, 10 years or 187,500 kilometers for the motor, and 7 years or 150,000 kilometers for the vehicle overall, including the low-voltage battery (LVB). Terms and conditions apply.
With the Sealion 7, Cimex adds a sixth BYD model to its growing EV lineup in Nepal. The company has continued to expand its portfolio amid rising consumer interest in electric vehicles and increasing support for clean mobility infrastructure. The SUV arrives as Nepal’s EV market matures, particularly in the premium segment, where competition is intensifying.
